“if theres a narrative I want it in the Flesh.”
- Jenny Saville
With this project we were presented with many different artists and tasked with designing a gallery space specifically for these artists. The artists I chose was one by the name of Jenny Saville.
Jennifer Anne Saville RA is a contemporary British painter and an original member of the Young British Artists. Her studies focused on the “imperfections” of flesh, with that she also wanted to point towards societal implications and taboos. Her main medium is oil paint, which when applied in heavy layers, becomes as visceral as flesh itself, each painted mark maintaining a supple, mobile life of its own.
Designing a space that would host her art called for an even soft lighting while providing large spaces to be able to host her massive works.
